Roland Grant (Smith)

From Nova Scotia, Canada, guitar virtuoso and composer Roland Grant (Smith) is garnering a reputation as a dynamic performer and recording artist, with an explosive live show and a unique brand of Latin/nuevo flamenco fused with rock and classical crossover.

Roland first took up guitar at the age of six, inspired by the image of Elvis on one of his grandparent’s cassette tapes. His debut album Equilibrium (2018) is best described as flamenco meets Steve Vai meets John Williams. He is now focusing on bringing to the stage his live show featuring a full band and special guests.

As an orchestral composer, Roland’s Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra premiered in 2019 with the composer as soloist. Other premieres include works for symphony orchestra, chamber music, and accompaniments to ballet and film. Roland was awarded the prize for Best Tonal Music at the 2017 International Antonín Dvořák Composition Competition held in Prague, Czech Republic, of which he has been a two-time finalist.
